With nearly 500 miles of coastline, setting sail in Portugal will lead you on magnificent adventures exploring sky-high cliffs meeting aqua seas. While known for stunning beaches and outstanding architecture, Portugal flies under the radar as a gastronomic gem. Whether you are sailing from Cascais or Lisbon, we picked a few of our favorite seaside restaurants you must try on your Portugal adventure. From local haunts to a seaside restaurant turned nightclub, come along for the culinary ride!
Dine seaside in a fishing village
You know what a fishing town means? Delicious, fresh fish! If you’re spending a day or a week sailing in Cascais, you must hop off your boat and explore the local restaurants. One of our favorites is Reserva da Villa. Opt for an outdoor table overlooking the coastal town or sit inside where the interior walls mirror the blue sea. Whether you’re inside or out, the ambiance of the coastal town will envelop you. Taste the different local cheeses to start and enjoy a traditional cod dish for dinner!
Sailing from Lisbon down the coast
If you’re renting a boat for sailing from Lisbon down the coast we recommend making way for Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal. With cliffs piercing the sky and cerulean seas, this coastal route will surely not disappoint. Once you arrive, enjoy a sunset dinner at Caniço Restaurante.
Carved into the cliffs, landlubbers have to take an elevator to reach this secluded seaside restaurant. Once the sun dips below the horizon a DJ or live band sets up on the beach where you can dance the night away under the stars!
Sail to oceanside restaurant
If you are renting a boat in Cascais, make a day trip a bit farther north to have lunch at Azenhas do Mar Restaurante Piscinas. With oversized windows overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, admire the waves rolling in from your perch at this seaside restaurant. Feel like you’re aboard a ship as you dine within whitewashed walls and nibble on fresh fish baked in salt. Once you fill up on your meal, stroll the oceanside promenade in front of the restaurant.
Eat like a local in Lisbon
Experience Lisbon like a local from one of the favorite restaurants, Ponte Final. Enjoy the laid-back vibe from this quirky restaurant overlooking the Tagus River with unparalleled views of Lisbon in the distance. If you are sailing Lisbon, dropping anchor here is a must to get a true glimpse of Portuguese culture. The menu is limited but authentic at this seaside establishment.
