Sailo Guidelines for Responsible Boating have been created in partnership with the Oceanic Global Foundation, non-profit that taps into the universal passions of art, music and emerging technologies to educate individuals on issues impacting our ocean and provide them with solutions for driving positive change. Oceanic Global focuses on engaging new audiences in environmentalism and work with a dynamic roster of businesses, nonprofits, scientists and advisors to provide easy methods for implementing conservation in daily life.

1. Please ensure to use eco-friendly creams and sunscreens.

WHY? Chemicals and even plant-based natural oils can be very damaging to sea-life, especially corals.

WHAT YOU CAN DO Consult the labels and do not apply creams that contain the following ingredients prior to entering the ocean: oxybenzone, lavender, tea tree oil and eucalyptus. Opt for physical sunscreens that have zinc oxide, avobenzone, octisalate, homosalate or titanium oxide that absorb UV rays upon contact with the skin.

2. Please be mindful not to disturb sea life when enjoying their habitat by snorkeling, free diving or scuba diving. This includes standing on the reef.

WHY? Corals and other marine life are really sensitive and should not be disturbed.

WHAT YOU CAN DO Do snorkel with caution when in close proximity to the reef and practice finning on sandy sections. Avoid touching the reef and sea life, and do not stand on the reef. Do not harass or chase marine animals.

These types of plastics are choking hazards and can cause marine life serious injury. In addition when they are ingested and can bioaccumulate up the food chain resulting in plastics and their chemical by products being present in the seafood we consume.

1. When provisioning please consider lessening the environmental impact of your food choices.

WHY? Food production, shipping and handling processes generates greenhouse gases, pollutes air and water resources. In the case of seafood, opting for sustainable options can relieve the pressure on overfished species.

WHAT YOU CAN DO When provisioning please consider buying in bulk as well as providing organic, locally appropriate and seasonally appropriate food options. As such you can ensure that your guests enjoy the freshest, most flavorful and environmentally sustainable options for your guests.

2. Please utilize non-toxic green cleaning products and cloths or rags when cleaning
